Please note that the dates on this draft are subject to change. However, the overall format of the year should remain stable. Furthermore, we have not yet scheduled 1/2 days, Carnival and other school-wide activities that may affect the dates listed on the draft. A more detailed and finalized version will be published at some point over the summer. Thanks for your patience!

Prayers
We pray for our ICS Class of 2016! May God be with our graduating 8th graders as they move from ICS to high school!

We pray in thanksgiving for those members of the Class of 2016 who were confirmed by Bishop Lynch last night. May the seal of the Holy Spirit inspire them to great deeds of Christian service!

We continue to pray for the grandfather of IanAlejandro Deliz (Gr. 3). May God grant IanAlejandro's grandfather strength to battle his many health issues and may God bring comfort to the entire family.

We continue to pray for Ethan and Devon Ostrander's (Gr. 8 and 6) great-grandmother who is in rehabilitation. May she return to full health soon.

We continue to pray for Jacob Clark's (Gr. 3) aunt, who has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. May God send His Holy Spirit and offer healing and strength to Jacob's aunt and their entire family.

We continue to lift up Mary Grace Torralba, a family friend of the Altamiranos (Avery, Gr. 7) who is losing her battle with cancer. May the Holy Spirit intercede on Mary's behalf and bring comfort and peace to Mary and her family and friends.

We continue to pray for Coach Garofolo and his wife for continued good health in the pregnancy of their second child!

We pray for the continued recovery of Flavio da Silva, Mickaella Marcal's (Gr. 2) father.

Hope Will Rise

Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance, and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope, and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us (Romans 5: 3 - 5).
As Christians, we believe that affliction and suffering can lead us to becoming the people that God created us to be. As St. Paul writes in this letter to the Romans, this affliction produces endurance. Endurance gives us character. And, a character that has been proven produces hope, and hope does not disappoint.

May we have the courage to embrace our trials, the wisdom to see the fruit they can produce and the hope that God's promise of redemption will be fulfilled!

Boast of your afflictions, develop endurance, prove your character, and HOPE WILL RISE.

ICS Academics
Families with students in grades 2 - 8 should have received Iowa Assessment scores last week in the Thursday packet. This is part 4 in a series aimed at helping you to understand the scores provided. For further information, consider checking out this post: http://incarnationcsca.blogspot.com/2014/06/standardized-testing-video-series.html

We have already covered National Percentile Ranking, National Stanine, and Grade Equivalent. Today we will look at Percent Correct:
-Percent Correct
This measurement aligns with a traditional understanding of academic scores and is the closest to feedback received on classroom level assignments. Simply, it is the number of correct answers given by your child divided by the overall number of questions. You will find the percent correct on the detailed version of your child's scores, in the section titled "Domains/Cognitive Levels". It is under the column labeled: %C Std. Next to this column you will see: %C Nat. This is the national average regarding the percent correct for that section of the test. Scores that are on grade level should be within +/-10 points of this National average.
If you have any questions or would like help in interpreting your child's performance on the Iowa Assessment or overall, please contact your child's Homeroom teacher.

In honor of our Confirmandi (the young people who were confirmed last night), here is a great video to help explain the Sacrament of Confirmation. If you've been confirmed the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit - wisdom, knowledge, understanding, fortitude, piety, counsel, and fear of the Lord - have been sealed and strengthened within you!

Hope Will Rise
"However dark things are, goodness always re-emerges and spreads. Each day in our world beauty is born anew; it RISES transformed through the storms of history. Values always tend to reappear under new guises, and human beings have arisen time after time from situations that seemed doomed. Such is the power of the Resurrection, and all who evangelize are instruments of that power."
-Pope Francis I, Evangelii Gaudium

Be an instrument of that power - His power. Spread His Good News. Tell your story of hope. Praise Him.

Be blessed. Be bold. Fight for joy.

Hope Will Rise!

ICS Assistant Principal
It is with great excitement that we introduce to our Incarnation Catholic School community our new Assistant Principal, Ms. Janelle Sanchez!

Read below for an introduction from Ms. Sanchez!
I am very excited to be joining the Incarnation Community this year to serve as the Assistant Principal of Incarnation Catholic School! The mission of inspiring disciples of Christ, challenging each individual to be a life-long learner, and living our Catholic faith through service to each other and the community aligns perfectly with my personal mission and leadership philosophy. I come to Incarnation with a diverse set of teaching experiences in a variety of settings. I have taught Fourth Grade in a self-contained classroom, Eleventh Grade in an American History classroom (regular, honors, and AP!), and Middle School in a Social Studies and Language Arts classroom. I have even taught First Grade Religion!  Administratively, I was nominated Chair of the Accreditation Steering Committee at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Pinellas Park, as well as serving as the Middle School Professional Learning Community Leader, the Student Government Co-Leader, and finally, as the Eighth Grade Graduation and Retreat Coordinator. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Tampa, a Master’s Degree in Secondary Social Sciences from the University of Central Florida, and I am currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Notre Dame.
Incarnation is a rich community blessed with the Lord’s love and guidance, and I look forward to serving and growing alongside Incarnation's wonderful Faculty, Staff, students and families. Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!
Ms. Sanchez will be joining us next Monday May 23 for our Morning Gathering. We will host a brief "meet and greet" following our Monday Morning Gathering (which starts at 7:47 and goes until 8:05) for anyone interested in meeting Ms. Sanchez. Come for Morning Gathering (in St. Michael Hall immediately after drop-off) and then stay for coffee and conversation this Monday May 23.

Please pray for Ms. Sanchez and her new ministry here at Incarnation Catholic School!

ICS Academics
Families with students in grades 2 - 8 will receive Iowa Assessment scores today in the Thursday packet. To help you with interpreting the scores, consider checking out this post: http://incarnationcsca.blogspot.com/2014/06/standardized-testing-video-series.html

We have already covered National Percentile Ranking and National Stanine. Today we will look at Grade Equivalent (GE):

-Grade Equivalent (GE) - A Grade Equivalent is a measure of your child's abilities in terms of grade level and month of the school year. So, for a 5th grader who receives a GE of 5.7 for a domain means that he/she scored like a student is in the seventh month of 5th grade. However, a 5th grader who receives a GE of 10.8 (the eighth month of sophomore year) should not be expected to jump from 5th to 10th grade. A GE score that is higher than the current grade level of your child (10.8 for a 5th grader) indicates that your son/daughter scored as well as a sophomore in the eighth month of school would have scored on the 5th grade exam.
As we took the test in early March, look for your child's GE to be somewhere between the 5th and 7th month of the current grade level (i.e. 3.5 - 3.7).
We've also created a 4-part Video Interpretation Series to help you! Check it out: http://incarnationcsca.blogspot.com/2014/06/standardized-testing-video-series.html

ICS Faith
If you've been baptized, you have the gifts of the Holy Spirit coursing through your veins:
-Wisdom helps us recognize the importance of others and the importance of keeping God central in our lives.

-Understanding is the ability to comprehend the meaning of God's message.

-Knowledge is the ability to think about and explore God's revelation, and also to recognize there are mysteries of faith beyond us.

-Counsel is the ability to see the best way to follow God's plan when we have choices that relate to him.

-Fortitude is the courage to do what one knows is right.

-Piety helps us pray to God in true devotion.

-Fear of the Lord is the feeling of amazement before God, who is all-present, and whose friendship we do not want to lose.

If you've been confirmed, these gifts have been galvanized and strengthened inside you in a powerful way! Unleash your manifestation of the Holy Spirit into the world! Claim your rightful place in Jesus's Kingdom and nurture these gifts through prayer, reading Scripture and participating in the Eucharist and Reconciliation! You are a prophet, priest and king (or queen!). For more, read here: http://www.wordonfire.org/resources/article/priests-prophets-kings/477/

ICS Digital Media
Here is another prayer for our participation in Social Media:

Social Media Prayer
Christ has no online presence but yours
No blog, no Facebook page but yours,
Yours are the tweets through which love touches the world,
Yours are the posts through which the Gospel is shared,
Yours are the updates through which hope is revealed.
Christ has no online presence but yours,
No blog, no Facebook page but yours.
