Katie Rose Gonzalez
Congratulations to Mrs. Gonzalez and her husband on the birth of their daughter, Katie Rose Gonzalez, on Monday! The newest member of the Gonzalez family arrived on April 25 at 8:35 p.m. She weighed in at 7 lbs. 13 oz. and measured 20.5 inches! Mom, dad and baby are doing well! Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Gonzalez and welcome to the world, Katie Rose!

Send Mrs. Gonzalez a note of congratulations: gonzalezl@icstampa.org

Prayers
We pray in thanksgiving for the gift of Katie Rose Gonzalez being born this past Monday!

We continue to pray for the people of Ecuador and Japan who have been affected by the recent earthquakes. May God help to restore the loss of life and property and bring healing and hope to these devastated lands.

We pray for our 2nd and 8th graders who will be receiving the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation, respectively, in the upcoming month of May. May God continue to lead and guide them on the final stages of their journeys of faith and may these students experience Jesus's graces in new and transforming ways through these Sacraments of Initiation!

We lift up Kiera Jordan, friend of Elijah Carbo (Gr. 3) who has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. We pray for Kiera and her doctors. May God's healing hand lead her to a full recovery.

We pray for Kai Schulte, nephew of Mrs. Ostrander (Devon and Ethan, Gr. 6 and 8). Kai passed into eternal life last Wednesday. May God grant Kai eternal rest and may God give the family His strength and peace during this difficult time.

We continue to pray for Coach Garofolo and his wife for continued good health in the pregnancy of their second child!

We pray for the continued recovery of Flavio da Silva, Mickaella Marcal's (Gr. 2) father.

Have a prayer request? Send it to icsmzele@icstampa.org

Hope Will Rise

Jesus seeks your heart. He wants nothing more than you to turn to Him and allow Him to heal you, love you, and transform you.

Allow Him into your life and Hope Will Rise.

ICS Academics
We have been covering the concept of a Growth Mindset over the past few weeks. To continue to grow in this idea, here is some more information about promoting a Growth Mindset in your children (instead of "What Can I Say To Myself" think "What Can I Say To My Kids"):

from: https://twitter.com/robfmac/status/723611497990111232

Be careful of your own self-talk, too! Our kids listen to everything that we say, they watch everything that we do and they imitate us in both good ways and bad! Be sure you're sending them the right message about a Growth Mindset! You can do it!

ICS Faith
What do you get out of Mass? Check out this short reflection on the Real Presence in the Eucharist! As our 2nd graders make their First Holy Communion this weekend, may they act as witnesses to the lukewarm, the apathetic and the lapse Catholic in all of us! Jesus is the Bread of Life! Amen!

ICS Digital Media
ICS embraces a philosophy of Digital Literacy that encourages students to critically consume on-line content while being responsible Digital Citizens. Given the amount of time students spend engaged in electronic media outside of school - over 7 hours a day - it is vital that they know how to view this content thoughtfully.

Incarnation Carnival - Thank you!
On behalf of Fr. Michael Suszynski and the faculty, staff and students of Incarnation Catholic School, we would like to thank the following individuals from the School and Church for their herculean efforts with our 52nd Annual Carnival. We had an outstanding outpouring of volunteer support with set-up, during the event itself, and even afterwards with clean-up (thank you!), but the list of individuals below went above and beyond the call of duty to organize and execute this 4-day event! Many took time off of work and/or used some of their own resources with attracting vendors, advertising, securing entertainment, construction of booths and the overall financial operation of the event.

Re-registration to ICS
From the desk of Mrs. Moody, ICS Registrar:
We have had a great influx of new families that have already registered students at ICS for next year. Typically, we see an increase in new students later in the summer. This year, we have had a strong number of new families commit to ICS earlier than usual. I have also given more tours this year than in the past. Current families shouldn't delay in re-registering as spots are filling up!
This is great news for our school, but don't be left without a spot! Do not delay; re-register today. Contact Mrs. Moody for more information or with questions: icsmmood@icstampa.org

3rd Annual Irish Cup Championship
On Friday May 13 students will compete with their Households and Priories in the 3rd Annual Irish Cup Championship. A year-long competition, the Race for the Irish Cup culminates with this reimagined version of field day in which students will work together in a variety of physical and mental challenges.

Last year, through the generosity of donors, ICS was able to purchase 4 Jump Sumo and 4 Ollie drones to use as the STEM components of the academic challenges that have since become a part of our Coding and Robotics clubs. Similarly, we were able to provide all members of the school community a Priory t-shirt to promote school spirit and make the competition even more exciting!

We have BIG plans for this year's Irish Cup. If you are willing to make a donation to help ICS defray the costs of this community building event (t-shirts, supplies, snacks, etc.), please send it in to the Front Office or contact Mr. Zelenka: zelenkam@icstampa.org

Anyone interested in volunteering for the event should also contact either the Front Office (813) 884-4502 or Mr. Zelenka: zelenkam@icstampa.org. Volunteers must be Background Screened!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Happy Easter!

IN KEEPING WITH OUR TRADITION, WE AT INCARNATION CATHOLIC SCHOOL:
Inspire disciples of Christ,
Challenge each individual to be a life-long learner, and
Strive to live our Catholic faith through service to each other and the community.

Hope Will Rise

At ICS we embrace a philosophy of discipline that focuses on creating disciples of Christ. For more details on this approach, visit this link: http://icscatholicedu.blogspot.com/2010/08/discipline-to-disciple.html

Seeing discipline through the lens of solving a problem makes the disciplinary process entirely hopeful!

Focus on solutions, not retribution and HOPE WILL RISE!

ICS Academics
A big concept in education today is embracing a Growth vs. Fixed Mindset. The main difference: a growth mindset believes that knowledge is the product of focused practice, specific feedback, and hard work; a fixed mindset believes that you are either born with a particular ability or aptitude to learn something or not. At ICS, we wholeheartedly embrace a growth mindset and we believe that all students can learn and that we can teach all students.

A mantra this year used by teachers and students alike is that "We can do hard things." Consider incorporating this into your word banks. More importantly, consider incorporating it into your approach to support your child.

Struggle is okay. Embrace it.

ICS Faith
Did you know that every Wednesday students and teachers gather before the Celebration of the Eucharist for Warm-up to Worship? Warm-up to Worship lasts 20 minutes and affords the school community an opportunity to focus on various aspects of our Catholic faith. This year we have learned about why we make the sign of the cross, why we pray the Rosary, and we are currently unpacking the Eucharist!

This intentional time spent in preparation for the Lord's Supper can be replicated at home. Consider reading the upcoming weekend's Gospel as a family throughout the course of the week. You could read it every night before going to bed or have a Bible study one night each week - all you have to do is read God's Word and then reflect on it.

Or, say a prayer together in the car on the way to Mass on Sundays for the Lord to inspire your hearts and minds with His abundant love and mercy!

God desires an intimate relationship with you! He is calling you to holiness. He is calling you to sainthood. He is calling you to greatness!

ICS Digital Media
How many emails do you get in a day? How many of them nourish you? Not enough, right? Most are either junk, should be junk or end up being junk.

Consider subscribing to either or both of these to help you become the best parent you can be! Put technology to work for you!

AllProDad.com - http://www.allprodad.com/subscribe/

iMom.com - http://www.imom.com/subscribe/#.Vw8I5zY3elA

In either case you will receive a daily email aimed at helping you navigate the choppy waters that is parenthood!

Incarnation Carnival - April 14 - 17
The 52nd Annual Incarnation Carnival starts tonight!

-Thursday April 14 - 6:00 - 10:00 p.m.
-Friday April 15 - 6:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
-Saturday April 16 - 2:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
-Sunday April 17 - 1:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Please remember that students should be supervised at all times throughout the event. Even though the fun takes place on the ICS campus, the Carnival is open to the public and therefore not up to the same levels of security that we enjoy during the course of the school day. Please be sure to keep our children safe! Thank you!

Carnival Aftercare
We will offer Aftercare both today (4/14) and tomorrow (4/15) until 6:00 p.m. Students must be checked out by a parent and/or permission must be given in writing in order for a student to leave from Aftercare and go directly to Carnival. Again, please help to keep our students safe by adhering to this policy!

Carnival Volunteers
Please be sure to consult the finalized volunteer schedule emailed on Wednesday April 13 for your most up to date volunteer post! Follow these tips for volunteering:

1. Arrive 10 minutes early so that you can visit the Volunteer Check-in Booth to get briefed on your post (especially because it may change!).

2. Stay through the duration of your post. Do not abandon a booth! In the event you have to leave before the next volunteer arrives, please be sure to contact one of the Volunteer Check-in workers so that we can be sure to keep all booths appropriately staffed!

3. Smile! Interact with our AMAZING community and fun with your post!

Thank you in advance for your hard work!

Prayers
We pray in thanksgiving for all of those who were fully initiated into the Church during this Easter, especially our very own Ms. Maniscalco. May God bless these new Catholics and may they continue to experience His abundant graces through reception of the Sacraments in the Church!

We pray for the continued recovery of Flavio da Silva, Mickaella Marcal's (Gr. 2) father.

We pray for next week's Incarnation Carnival. May the weather be pleasant, the fun be safe and may all that happens honor and glorify our Heavenly Father!

Have a prayer request? Send it to icsmzele@icstampa.org

Hope Will Rise

Today's Hope Will Rise quote comes from Christian music artist and professed Catholic, Matt Maher, and his song, Abide With Me. Christ conquered sin and death! He shows us that hope can rise again up from the grave, no matter what that grave is!

Christ is RISEN; Hope has RISEN!

Let it continue to rise!

3rd Quarter Honors
Congratulations to the following students who earned honors for their efforts throughout the 3rd Quarter! Honor roll certificates will be awarded after Mass on Wednesday April 13. GO IRISH!

ICS Academics
Ever wonder how you can best help your child(ren) study? Check out this blog post for some great strategies: http://www.edutopia.org/blog/good-study-habits-minute-by-minute-heather-lambert?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=socialflow

One of the biggest takeaways is to be intentional about setting aside time for skills practice, homework and studying on a daily basis! This can even be in small chunks of time (take your child's age and have them focus for that many minutes at a time). Instead of 60 solid minutes, middle schoolers could break up their efforts at home in four-15 minute segments, squeezing in academic time before dinner, before practice, while brushing teeth and before going to sleep.

ICS Faith
Christ is risen! Alleluia!

Need more inspiration than Jesus conquering sin and death?

Check out this list of miracles performed in the Acts of the Apostles because of the gifts of the Holy Spirit - the same Holy Spirit you've received through Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation!

  • Acts 5:15: Peter is so filled with the Holy Spirit that even his shadow has the power to heal, a fact that makes Groundhog Day even less impressive.
  • Acts 8:39: after teaching about Christ and baptizing the Ethiopian eunuch, the Holy Spirit snatched Philip immediately in a scene almost reminiscent of Star Trek.
  • Acts 9:36-42: Peter raises Tabitha from the dead. Almost as impressive is that Tabitha was also known named ‘Dorcas.’ I think it’s clear why she went by Tabitha.
  • Acts 20:9-12: a young man named Eutychus falls asleep and to his death out a third story window in the middle of Mass. St. Paul later brings him back to life. Moral of the story? Don’t fall asleep during a homily.
  • Acts 28:3-6: a poisonous viper sprung out of a campfire and latched onto St. Paul’s arm, only to be thrust off with Paul suffering no harm. The witnesses then thought Paul was a god. It’s a shame YouTube wasn’t around back then.

ICS Digital Media
Did you know that a little over two weeks ago that Pope Francis launched an Instagram account? In less than 12 hours he had over 1 million followers, the fastest growing account in the company's history!

From an NPR report about the Pope's account:
The Vatican announced the pope's Instagram debut in advance, noting that the pontiff has more than 25 million followers on Twitter (across accounts tweeting in several languages)and suggesting that photographs on Instagram will "help recount the Papacy through images."
The Pope's English-language Twitter account also marked the occasion. The pope tweeted: "I am beginning a new journey, on Instagram, to walk with you along the path of mercy and the tenderness of God."
It is pretty inspiring that despite the "selfie" culture of today, so many people have allowed Pope Francis and the Gospel message to penetrate their respective feeds!

Click here to follow the Pope: https://www.instagram.com/franciscus/

Are you in?

3rd Quarter Report Cards are being sent home today, Thursday April 7, 2016. Please be sure to check with your child. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher(s).

3rd Quarter Honor Roll
We will post 3rd Quarter Honor Roll recipients in a special instant alert. We apologize for the delay in this. Honor Roll certificates will be disseminated after Mass next Wednesday April 13.

Parents are required to volunteer a minimum of 8 Commitment Hours at the Spring Carnival, and/or Gala Dinner Dance. A minimum of 4 hours must be earned at the Spring Carnival by work or donations.
So, all ICS families are expected to volunteer for at least 4 hours at the Spring Carnival either through work (set-up / take-down included) or donations. We will post the volunteer list thus far in a special alert! Stay tuned. If you would still like to sign-up for a shift, please contact your Homeroom Parent.
