Prayers
We pray for the grandmother of 4th Grader Dominick Maggio, Connie Chavis, who had surgery on Monday of this week. May the Lord grant her a swift and full recovery.

We continue to pray for Flavio da Silva, Mickaella Marcal's (Gr. 2) father. May Mr. da Silva continue on the path to full recovery.

We pray for the upcoming season of Lent. May this intentional time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving lead our ICS Family closer to the Risen Christ!

Have a prayer request? Send it to icsmzele@icstampa.org.

Hope Will Rise

"Planting a garden is having hope in tomorrow."

Plant and hope will rise. Nurture and hope will rise. Protect and hope will rise. Love and hope will rise.

Hope Will Rise in you and because of you.

Be a marigold.

ICS Academics
Formative vs. Summative Assessment
Assessment and grades provide feedback for the student, teacher, parents and the school on students academic progress. The purpose of assessments is to provide information to students for self-evaluation and improvement. Assessments provide information to teachers on students levels of mastery of the content/skills. In turn, this helps teachers in planning, pacing, reteaching and remediating. Assessments communicate information to parents about student achievement and performance in school.

At ICS, the two forms of assessment utilized in the learning environment are formative and summative.

Formative assessment occurs during a unit. Formative assessments are short and frequent; they may be provided in way of skills practice (homework), checkpoint cards, exit slips or classwork. The feedback from formative assessment is low-stakes in its value to a student’s grade, but great value in the feedback it provides teachers, students and parents that leads to learning, growth and improvement.

After a student has had sufficient instruction and practice on a topic, it is then reasonable to judge mastery of understanding, content or skills. Assessments done at this stage are considered summative. Summative assessments occur at the end of the unit. They are to evaluate the mastery of specific standards within a given unit. Examples of summative assessments may include but are not limited to unit tests, presentations, projects and performance assessments.

Of the two, formative assessment has an incredibly larger effect on learning. Focus on formative assessments. Put in the effort. Try the skills practice. Sharpen your sword. Build your capacity. Learn.

ICS Faith
Thank you to the over 100 students and families that attended Mass on 1/30/16 at Incarnation Catholic Church! Our students did an outstanding job ministering to our parish community and they represented our God, our school, our families and themselves exceptionally well!

Please continue to be led by the Holy Spirit. Please continue to bring your children to the Eucharist. Continue to become the best version of yourself! Continue to pray - give God your heart.

Know of our prayers and support on your journey of faith! May God continue to bless your efforts and show you His graces through your time spent with Him.

God loves you. God's love is enough. Therefore, you are enough! Believe it and live it!

ICS Digital Media
While being tethered to our devices can keep us from being fully engaged to the people in front of us - most likely family and friends - did you know that our prolonged use of devices can also lead to lower self-esteem and confidence? Check out this new study that focuses on the "iHunch" or the typical posture of people's bodies when using a device and how this body positioning can actually be doing harm to our bodies, minds and spirits!

Conferences
Forms to sign up for conferences on Thursday February 11 were sent last week with students. Please fill out a form for each of your children for which you would like a conference. Teachers will do all that they can to accommodate all requests. In some cases, conferences may take place on a day other than February 11. Feel free to contact any ICS teacher at any time to talk about the progress of your child(ren). We are happy to partner with you and welcome the opportunity to dialogue with you - whenever that is - for the benefit of your child.

Please be sure to submit the form by Tuesday February 9. Thank you!

Grandparents' Day 2016
ICS Grandparents' Day 2016 is next Friday February 12. Registering for this event is essential for our planning purposes. A small fee of $5 per person (for both Grandparents and students) will be charged as we will be catering breakfast that morning.

If you have any questions about Grandparents' Day 2016, please contact the Front Office.

Remember that RSVP's are due by Tuesday February 9. Flyers can be found in the Front Office.

Seating for breakfast will be organized based on RSVPs. Failure to return the RSVP sheet on time may result in your Grandparent(s) and students having to utilize auxiliary seating for this event. Failure to submit money for grandparent and student breakfasts may result in food not being available - meals will not be available for purchase at the door. Register as soon as possible to insure a spot in St. Michael Hall.

Also, should you desire for Grandparents to take your child(ren) home prior to the conclusion of the event you need to grant your permission on the RSVP form. Students will not be released early without this advance notice. Thank you in advance for helping us maintain this safety aspect of the morning.

If you have any questions about Grandparents' Day, please contact the Front Office: (813) 884-4502. We look forward to welcoming Grandparents to ICS next week!

ICS Student Council Carnation Sale
Our ICS Student Council is back at work this year. After a successful Hot Chocolate sale last week, they are moving on to their annual Carnation Sale in honor of Valentine's Day. The Carnation Sale this year will be on Friday February 12 - Grandparents' Day. Cost is $1.00 per flower. This would be a great way for students to honor their Grandparents and support their ICS Student Council at the same time!

Amazon Smile - Reminder
As was announced last week, ICS can earn money through your Amazon purchases. All you have to do to have Amazon make a donation to their favorite charity - ICS - needs to do is go to http://smile.amazon.com and make their charity selection.  Enter "Incarnation Catholic School, Tampa" under search and now any future purchases you make will send 0.5% of the total to ICS. Just remember to go to http://smile.amazon.com.  Prime membership is recognized on both sites.

2nd Annual Valentine's Gala
Please consider supporting our Parish Church - Incarnation - and its largest fundraiser of the year. The 2nd Annual Valentine's Gala is a great opportunity for us to give back to our Church who gives so much to the students and families of ICS. Contact the Church Office: (813) 885-7861 for tickets and/or more information. The event is next Saturday! We hope to see you there!
