A Letter from: Ms. McLaughlin, Our New ICS Principal

Please see the note below from our new ICS Principal, Ms. Marrie McLaughlin:

As the person who was very lucky to be chosen as the new Principal of such a wonderful school, I wanted to share just a little about myself until we are able to meet in person.

My personal philosophy of education is one of finding joy in learning. If a student loves school, they will become lifelong learners. If they truly enjoying coming to campus every morning, they will be more receptive to the lessons, both in the core curriculum and in the morals and values we instill in all those who attend a Catholic school.

I strive to create an environment where children can find success, and smile while doing it. I focus on the needs of the individual learner while maintaining expectations which teach children the world is available to them if they are ready to work for their own success.

I believe our achievements are found in the attributes and accomplishment of the graduates, not in test scores or standardizations. At St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School, not only do our students go on to graduate from high school as Valedictorians and Advanced Placement students, but they cry in our courtyard on the last day before summer vacation because they wish they could keep coming to campus each day. Seton students earn thousands in scholarships to college, and they also hold doors open for others and hug their teachers each day.

I am honored and blessed to follow in the very formidable footsteps of Mr. Zelenka. He has created an amazing learning environment and a legacy I am humbled to keep alive. I promise to maintain the integrity he has created in the education, and keep my door open to all of you for questions, concerns, or simply to say hello. I truly look forward to doing all I can for every child and family in the Incarnation community.

His blessings,

Marrie McLaughlin, Ed.S.

Remember that Ms. McLaughlin will be joining us for our last day of school, Wednesday May 31! Please plan to join us to welcome her to ICS!

Tuesday May 30 is a full day of school.

Wednesday May 31 is a half-day of school. On Wednesday we will host our "Ascension Ceremony" prior to the Celebration of the Eucharist. Students will "ascend" to their 2017-18 Mass seat locations! After Mass we will celebrate our end of the year awards! Then, students and teachers will adjourn back to their Homerooms for end of the year celebrations. Ms. McLaughlin will be with us and we will unveil next year's 2017-18 theme and our new ICS Promotional Video!

Finally, we will close our last day with a DANCE PARTY!

Remember that there is no aftercare on Wednesday May 31. Pick-up will begin at 12:00 p.m.

FINAL REMINDER - Iowa Assessment Scores
Iowa Assessment scores were sent last Thursday May 18. Please check out our Iowa Assessment Video Series to help you understand these reports.

Remember that the overall story of ICS is incredibly strong. There is a steady incline from year to year as classes progress through grade levels. Grade levels, for just about every section of the test, are at or above the national average. 8th Graders typically experience the biggest growth, especially if they have been with ICS for some time.

Contact your child's teacher, Mrs. Riek or Mr. Zelenka with any questions.

FINAL REMINDER - iPad Cart 2.0

Due to the generous donations during the Fund the Need project at last November's Auction, we have finally purchased our 2nd iPad cart stocked with 30 additional iPads! We will keep you up to date on their delivery and deployment into classrooms. We apologize for the delay, we appreciate your patience and we thank you for your support!
