Ms. McLaughlin, Our New ICS Principal

Please see the note below introducing our new ICS Principal, Ms. Marrie McLaughlin:

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Marrie (pronounced Mar - like car -rie) McLaughlin ("flynn" at the end) as our new principal. Ms. McLaughlin comes to us from the Diocese of Venice where she has served as both Principal and Assistant Principal at Elizabeth Seton Catholic School, and Assistant Principal at St. John Neumann Catholic High School. She has also worked as a high school math teacher and a school counselor. Ms. McLaughlin holds an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Florida and a Masters of Science in Education from Long Island University. She earned undergraduate degrees in both Psychology and Elementary Education from Mount St. Mary College.

Filled with a spirit of joy, Ms. McLaughlin will bring boundless energy and enthusiasm for Catholic education to ICS. I have every confidence that Ms. McLaughlin will take ICS to new and exciting heights next year and beyond. We are incredibly blessed to have her joining us next school year.

Please pray for Ms. McLaughlin during this time of transition. May the Holy Spirit lead and guide her as she assumes this new role of ministry within Catholic education at Incarnation Catholic School!

Welcome to ICS, Ms. McLaughlin!

Ms. McLaughlin is planning to join our ICS community for our last day of school, Wednesday May 31. Please plan to join us for Mass and meet Ms. McLaughlin after our end of the year awards!

We will keep you up to date on any other chances for our ICS community to welcome Ms. McLaughlin before this school year ends! Stay tuned!

ICS Athletics
Congratulations to Coach Garofolo, all of our volunteer coaches and all of our ICS student-athletics for an outstanding 2017-18 school year of Irish Athletics!

To celebrate our many successes, student-athletes and their families are invited to the 4:30 p.m. Mass this Saturday May 13. Awards will follow! We hope to see you there!

GO IRISH!

Iowa Assessment Scores
ICS teachers have spent the past two weeks analyzing and interpreting Iowa Assessment scores for students in Grades 2 - 8. We have also generated longitudinal scores for grades 3 - 8 so that you can see the growth your son / daughter has experienced during his / her time at ICS.

Scores will be sent next Thursday May 18. In advance, please check out our Iowa Assessment Video Series to help get you ready to receive your child's scores.

http://incarnationcsca.blogspot.com/2014/06/standardized-testing-video-series.html

The overall story of ICS is incredibly strong. There is a steady incline from year to year as classes progress through grade levels. Grade levels, for just about every section of the test, are at or above the national average. 8th Graders typically experience the biggest growth, especially if they have been with ICS for some time.

Please look for your child's scores next week!

ICS Spring Concert
Our Spring Concert is next Thursday May 18 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Michael Hall! Students should report to their Homerooms by 6:30 p.m. Please dress in your Easter Sunday best! UPDATE: Fidget Spinners
ICS embraces a Dynamic Learning Environment that allows for students to stand, move, and have choice in their seats. Lessons are designed with an understanding of how our brains learn best and our instructional strategies reflect this philosophy. One of the latest trends in our educational world is a "fidget spinner". Intended to help students focus, the "spinner" allows students to move without having to get up out of their seats.

Unfortunately, though, it is more a trend than it is a proven educational tool. In fact, research on tools to help with concentration center around allowing the learner to move, not on the tool moving: https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/2017/5/3/15529506/fidget-spinners-trend-science

Teachers will grant permission for students to use fidget spinners brought to ICS on a case by case basis. If you have any specific questions about this trend please contact either Mr. Zelenka or Mrs. Riek.

Irish Cup Champions: Elephant Priory

Thursday's events consisted of Priory Challenges: Spoken Word Poetry Jam; Boat Float; Hang Glider; Irish Chef Chopped; Catapult Challenge; and Make-A-Tennis-Racket Challenge.

Friday's events showcased a rotating Household Challenge: Hula Hoop Challenge; R2D2 Bop-It Challenge; Graham Tower Challenge; Cup Stacking Relay Race; Ollie Drone Relay Race; and the Irish Ninja Obstacle Course.

Friday afternoon ended with a Priory Showdown in the Catapult Challenge, the Boat Float and the Irish Cup Open Tennis Tournament.
