Prayers
We pray for Mrs. Maria Owens and 8th grader Maria Paula as they mourn the loss of Mrs. Owens' father. May God surround the Owens family with His mantle of love, strength and peace during this difficult time.

We pray for Coach Garofolo and his wife for continued good health in the pregnancy of their second child!

We lift up Mary Grace Torralba, a family friend of the Altamiranos (Avery, Gr. 7) who is losing her battle with cancer. May the Holy Spirit intercede on Mary's behalf and bring comfort and peace to Mary and her family and friends.

We once again pray in thanksgiving for the gift of Katie Rose Gonzalez, daughter of Mrs. Gonzalez!

We pray in thanksgiving for our 2nd graders and all of the students who received their First Holy Communion this past Sunday! May the graces of the Bread of Life fill their hearts with the life of Jesus Christ!

We pray for our 8th graders who will be receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation later this month. May God continue to lead and guide them on the final stages of their journey of faith and may these students experience Jesus's graces in new and transforming ways through this Sacrament of Initiation!

We pray for the continued recovery of Flavio da Silva, Mickaella Marcal's (Gr. 2) father.

Have a prayer request? Send it to icsmzele@icstampa.org

Hope Will Rise

Today is the National Day of Prayer. As we join together with other faith-filled people across our country, let us recognize the immense power of prayer! May our witness fill others with hope!

"Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer" (Romans 12:12).

Hope Will Rise!

ICS Academics
Next Thursday May 12 we will send home Iowa Assessment scores to families of students in grades 2 - 8. As a way to prepare for interpreting and understanding the information you will receive, consider checking out this post: http://incarnationcsca.blogspot.com/2014/06/standardized-testing-video-series.html

Over the last few weeks of the school year we will help you to interpret these scores. Today's topic is National Percentile Ranking (NPR):
A National Percentile Ranking (NPR) is not the same thing as a letter grade or percentage score used in classroom settings. For example, a 65% on a science test administered by your child's classroom teacher is much different than scoring in the 65th National Percentile Ranking. Scoring a 65% on a classroom assignment means that your son/daughter only successfully got 65% of the items correct.
A National Percentile Ranking of 65, though, means that your son/daughter scored better than 65% of the other students who took the same test at the same time. An average NPR score is around the 50th NPR. An NPR score of 50 would mean that your son/daughter is progressing at the typical pace of a student from that particular grade level.
We've also created a 4-part Video Interpretation Series to help you! Check it out: http://incarnationcsca.blogspot.com/2014/06/standardized-testing-video-series.html

ICS Faith
Today marks 40 days since Jesus's Resurrection on Easter Sunday! It is the Solemnity (another word for an important Feast day) of the Ascension! It is when Jesus ascended into heaven! Before He left He promised that the Advocate would be coming - get ready for the gift of the Holy Spirit next week on Pentecost!

ICS Digital Media
If you needed another reason to limit your child's time on-line, here it is:
The more time young adults use social media, the more likely they are to be depressed.
A recent study linked the amount of time spent on social media and/or the frequency of checking social media sites to levels of depression. The more time spent on social media or the more often social media is accessed the more depressed we become!

Why? The research states:
The exposure to “highly idealized representations of peers on social media elicits feelings of envy and the distorted belief that others lead happier, more successful lives,” says the study. People that engage in activities of little meaning on social media makes them feel like they are wasting time. Spending more time on social media increases the exposure to cyber-bullying, thus causing feelings of depression. And social media fuels “Internet addiction,” which is considered a psychiatric condition linked to depression.

K through 3rd should wear their "Sunday best!". Students should report to their Homerooms by 6:30. PreK students will have a separate performance during the day later in May (details coming soon).

The program will take place in St. Michael Hall at 7:00 p.m. Seats are first come, first served. There is no cost for attendance. The entire event should take less than 60 minutes. 3rd Annual Irish Cup Championship
Next Friday May 13 students will compete with their Households and Priories in the 3rd Annual Irish Cup Championship. A year-long competition, the Race for the Irish Cup culminates with this reimagined version of field day in which students will work together in a variety of physical and mental challenges.

Last year, through the generosity of donors, ICS was able to purchase 4 Jump Sumo and 4 Ollie drones to use as the STEM components of the academic challenges that have since become a part of our Coding and Robotics clubs. Similarly, we were able to provide all members of the school community a Priory t-shirt to promote school spirit and make the competition even more exciting!

We have BIG plans for this year's Irish Cup. If you are willing to make a donation to help ICS defray the costs of this community building event (t-shirts, supplies, snacks, etc.), please send it in to the Front Office or contact Mr. Zelenka: zelenkam@icstampa.org

The cost of the t-shirts is $5 and each student will receive one to build excitement about this event. If you are willing to make a good will offering toward this expense or any of the other ones associated with the Irish Cup Championship please do so.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the event should also contact either the Front Office (813) 884-4502 or Mr. Zelenka: zelenkam@icstampa.org. Volunteers must be Background Screened!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Happy Easter!

IN KEEPING WITH OUR TRADITION, WE AT INCARNATION CATHOLIC SCHOOL:
Inspire disciples of Christ,
Challenge each individual to be a life-long learner, and
Strive to live our Catholic faith through service to each other and the community.
